Presentations and a summary of The Balkan Conference (Sofia, 4-5 November 2005)

The goal of this publication is to highlight some important conclusions and recommendations made during the conference and try to outline prospects for the development of direct democracy on the Balkans and in Europe, based on what was said by the participants. The desire of both the conference organisers and the conference participants is to escape the routine of events held and then quickly passing into oblivion. We are confident that the interventions, thoughts, discussions and conclusions made over these two days will leave a mark not only on the audience but that through this publication it will reach a lot of people who believe in direct democracy.

We honestly trust that as a result of our efforts and of those of many other enthusiasts, the environment for direct democracy in Bulgaria and on the Balkans will change for the better. Only then we will conclude that we have been successful and will gain fresh strength and energy to go on!
