"Results from the first National citizen initiative for amendments in the Law on direct citizen participation in state government and local self-government”

June 9th , 11.00, BTA press club

 
The Initiative started in March 2010 and suggests the following major amendments:
• To change the quorum requirement for national and local referendums;
• To reduce the number of signatures needed to start a National referendum procedure, initiated by citizens.

Balkan Assist Association is the author of the basic frame of the Law, which was changed dramatically during the adoption procedure by the 40th National Assembly (29.05.2009)

Members of the Initiative Committee, representatives of Balkan Assist and the partner organizations will participate in the press-conference.
Special guest visitor – Bruno Kaufmann, president of Initiative & Referendum Institute Europe (IRI). He is going to briefly present the European Citizen Initiative, introduced by the Treaty of Lisboa as well as the position of IRI and other partner organizations from different parts of the continent.
